5 Tips For Thief-Proofing Your Home

Take a look around your home and make sure you aren't making yourself an easy victim for thieves or vandals. Here are some easy tips to follow, that will help you know that you aren't doing something that makes it easier for someone to rob you or vandalize your property.

1: Get reflective tint for the windows – A reflective tint makes it hard to see into a window. When someone looks at the window, it will look more like a mirror and this keeps them from being able to see what you have inside the house that they can try to steal.

2: Put a security screen on your front door - A security screen is a very thick screen that has a doorknob with a lock and a deadbolt. Not only does this offer you double the protection, but it also allows you to open the front door for fresh air or to see who is knocking without taking the chance of someone coming in your house.

3: Be careful with your keys - Keep your keys in your pocket or bag when in public. Nowadays, a picture of your key can be used to make a copy with a three dimensional printer. Also, be careful who you allow to borrow your keys for any reason and remember that anyone can run them down to many local stores and make a copy without your knowledge. If you have lost your keys, change your locks right away. Don't leave a spare key hidden on your porch.

4: Don't leave your car unlocked - You should never leave your car unlocked. It more than likely has a good amount of information in it that someone could use to victimize you. Also, if you leave it unlocked when you are home and you are in the habit of keeping the garage door opener in there, then you have just provided a criminal to easy access to your garage.

5: Have a security company install an alarm - By having a professional security company (such as A P I Security) install an alarm, you will know it is installed correctly and will protect your home from thieves and vandals. Go with a system that covers all the weak areas with motion sensors and cameras when doing so will be beneficial. Also, have them put door and window sensors on each door and window, so thieves won't be able to find a safe place to get through.

About Me

Protecting a Beloved Grandparent

My maternal grandparents built a modest brick home in the country over 50 years ago. Sadly, my granddad passed away 23 years ago. Since this time, my grandmother has continued living in the brick home by herself. Because she will soon celebrate her 80th birthday, I have begun to worry about her protection more recently. To feel better about her continuing to live by herself, I would like to install a state-of-the-art security system at her home. I’m interested in purchasing a security system that contains a medical alert feature. On this blog, you will discover the best types of security systems to install at a beloved grandparent’s home.
